What do you actually do for PickEat?

I build and maintain our core platform, focusing on architecting scalable and reliable software solutions. Essentially, I'm responsible for making sure the technology side of PickEat is robust enough to handle the dynamic needs of live events.

Why did you say yes?

I was drawn to PickEat's unique position at the intersection of live events and technology. It's a space ripe for disruption, and the opportunity to build a platform that directly improves the event experience for both organizers and attendees was too compelling to pass up.

One thing about events/F&B/tech that most people get wrong?

The biggest misconception is thinking that event tech is just about fast transactions. It's actually about solving intense, momentary peak load issues—getting thousands of orders processed accurately in a 30-minute window. It requires a completely different approach to infrastructure compared to a typical e-commerce platform.

What's the gnarliest technical challenge you've hit while building for PickEat?

Scaling our payment and order-routing system to handle simultaneous, massive influxes of users during key event moments. We had to completely re-architect our messaging queues to ensure zero-latency processing, which was a huge but rewarding challenge.

What's different about building software for live events vs. other industries you've worked in?

In live events, failure is not an option. Unlike many other industries, where a small delay or downtime is inconvenient, a system crash during peak hours can ruin an event and cause immediate financial loss. The software must be built with extreme resilience and fault tolerance, prioritizing offline capabilities and rapid failover.

What are you most curious to see PickEat tackle next?

I'm most interested in expanding our predictive analytics capabilities. I'd like to see us move beyond real-time operations to help venues and caterers forecast demand for specific menu items, reducing food waste and optimizing inventory at a higher level.

Random fun fact about you

I am naturally curious and enjoy diving into new topics whenever something catches my interest. I often find myself exploring ideas far outside my daily work because I enjoy understanding how things function and how they connect at a deeper level.

When Asim says he had to "completely re-architect our messaging queues," he's talking about the kind of technical depth that separates software that works most of the time from software that works when it absolutely has to.

Welcome to the team, Asim!
